Ohio State Hiring Ryan Day Definitely a Gamble

  • Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer will step down after the Rose Bowl

No further details about the decision to retire were immediately available.

The school announced earlier in the day that Meyer would step down after the Buckeyes' appearance in the Rose Bowl.

Of course, we won't be surprised if Meyer tells the world he wants to spend more time with his family.

He has a 54-4 record in Big Ten games and has won three national championships - one at Ohio State and two with the Florida Gators.

It is expected that Meyer will cite his health as the reason for his departure.

In addition to the domestic abuse scandal, Meyer "has been slowed by headaches caused by a cyst", member station WOSU reports, adding, "The chatter increased after he looked more distressed and beleaguered than usual on the sideline during the 49-20 loss to unranked Purdue on October 20".

There was no confirmation that the prince might also visit Algeria's neighbour Morocco, despite speculation in the local press. In the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott early Sunday, he was welcomed by President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.

The university will announce his retirement at a 2 p.m. ET news conference.

Coach Ryan Day now serves as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, according to the school's website.

A national championship, seven first-place division finishes, three conference championships, three bowl wins, and possibly a Rose Bowl win to put a very Scarlet and Gray bow on the gift that Meyer has been for OSU. He's an Ohio State guy to his core.

If this is Meyer's final coaching job, how his career will be remembered will be determined through the prism in which it is viewed.

Now after seven years with the Buckeyes Meyer is leaving and I just don't buy he'll stay retired.

It's been a troubling year for Meyer who was suspended without pay for the first three games of this season for his mishandling of the domestic assault allegations against former wide receivers coach Zach Smith. The Buckeyes went 3-0 under Day, including a win over TCU in Arlington, Texas, before Meyer returned to the sideline September 22 against Tulane.

And NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine said Musk will not be doing it again, The Atlantic reported Thursday. The goal is to get science and technology experiments to the surface of the moon as soon as possible.

"I believe I will not coach again", he added that he was fairly certain in that response.

Meyer might be retiring so he can distance himself from one of the recent big scandals in college football. He said he planned on coming back to coach in 2019.

His time at Ohio State wasn't without controversy.

He later issued a statement apologizing directly to Smith's wife, saying, "Let me say here and now what I should have said on Wednesday: I sincerely apologize to Courtney Smith and her children for what they have gone through".

"My son is committed to Ohio State University and Coach Day", said Terrance Mathis, Dwan's father. But Meyer knew he couldn't go on the way things were this season.
