  • An official from Indonesia's transportation safety agency examines a turbine engine from the crashed Lion Air plane

"We think this is an issue that is important because there are more than 200 Max planes around the world", Capt. Nurcahyo Utomo, the transportation safety committee's lead accident investigator, told the Times.

According to the report, the warning is based on the investigation of the Lion Air Flight 610 crash in Indonesia. The committee, charged with finding the cause of the crash, is set to hold a briefing at 4 Jakarta.

It hit the pole at about 11am on Wednesday while manoeuvring in front of the terminal building. Lion Air declined to comment. No injuries have been reported.

The Lion Air investigation comes after Indonesia's government ordered an inspection of all Boeing 737 Max 8 planes in the country.

Southwest had 23 737 Max 8 in its fleet as of September 30, with nine more to be delivered by the end of the year. That followed the discovery of defects on two other Boeing 737 Max 8 planes - both operated by Lion Mentari Airlines - during checks on six aircraft of that type.

But what is disturbing is why Lion Air didn't pull this plane from service after repeated problems.

That sensor is meant to maintain air flow over a plane's wings but if it malfunctions it can cause the plane's computers to erroneously think it is in a aerodynamic stall - which can then cause aircraft to abruptly dive.

How Women Candidates Changed American Politics in 2018
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's surprise victory in the June congressional primary in NY shook up Washington and the Democratic Party. In five states - Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, Washington and Wisconsin - female candidates challenged sitting female senators.

The operations-manual bulletin was issued Tuesday, Boeing said in a statement posted to Twitter, and tells flight crews to use existing guidelines when dealing with erroneous inputs from the so-called angle of attack sensor.

The 737 Max has flight control systems which.

A Boeing Co. warning to 737 Max operators around the globe provides the first clues about how bad data from an airflow sensor might have contributed to the deadly crash of an Indonesian airliner last week.

The rapid loss in altitude on that previous flight was also reported by a flight-tracking website.

Around the world, over 200,000 of these exact planes are now in use.

The Lion Air plane was en route from Jakarta to Pangkal Pinang city on Sumatra island 10 days ago when it plunged into the water, killing all 189 people onboard. There were no survivors.

The Chicago-based planemaker has delivered 219 Max, the latest and most advanced 737 jets, since the new models made their commercial debut past year with a Lion Air subsidiary. A preliminary report is expected at the end of the month.

Investigators said Monday that one of the so-called black boxes showed that the airspeed indicator on the Boeing jet malfunctioned on its last four flights, including the October 29 crash that killed all 189 people on board.

Mr. Ramadhan had been a prosecutor in a district of the Bangka, where the plane would have landed.

Representatives of 737 MAX operators, Singapore Airlines Ltd SIAL.SI offshoot SilkAir, Garuda Indonesia GIAA.JK and Canada's WestJet Ltd WJA.TO , said they had not yet received a bulletin from Boeing.

"We also plan to conduct a flight reconstruction to see the impact of the AOA sensor damage in the engineering simulator at the Boeing facility in Seattle".

As of Monday, 138 body bags containing human remains had been recovered and handed to police for forensic identification, yet only 14 victims had been identified.
