"We condemn the attempted violent attacks recently made against President Obama, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton, and other public figures", White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

The White House has accused the CNN of dividing America as the news network criticised the Trump administration for a "total and complete lack of understanding" of the seriousness of its attacks on the media following the discovery of an explosive package sent to CNN's New York City office. He is promoting a book about his time in the White House and his relationship with President Trump. "Thus far, they have shown no comprehension of that".

U.S. Capitol Police also were investigating a suspicious package addressed to Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., at the Capitol Hill mail screening facility. "It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description". In fact the president has called for protestors to be punched and praised a congressman who was convicted of assaulting a reporter. "Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!"

Similar packages were intercepted en route to the homes of former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. "The president may not be directly responsible for yesterday, but he creates the climate of hatred that led us here", CNN senior political analyst David Gergen tweeted. "It is a hard conversation to have to say one side cultivates violence, one side inspires this type of behavior more than the other because you sound partisan when you say it".
