Toyota Motor Corp is recalling 744 Prius hybrid cars in Singapore, as part of its global recall of 2.4 million vehicles over a system issue that can lead to stalling.

The recall applies to Toyota Prius and Auris hybrids made between October 2008 and November 2014.

In a statement, Toyota said: "The involved vehicles were created to enter a failsafe driving mode in response to certain hybrid system faults".

'If this occurs, the vehicle could lose power and stall.

Central government cuts fuel prices by Rs 2.50 a litre in India
In a boost to oil companies, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday eased the overseas borrowing norms by up to $10 billion. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday assured the markets that the government would not go back to regulating fuel prices .

The latest recall builds on two earlier recalls the automaker issued in 2014 and 2015.

Toyota did not say if owners would see an airbag warning light on the instrument panel or if it knew of any reported accidents.

This means that the vehicle could lose power and stall while, according to the firm, power steering and braking remain operational.

It's not the first time Toyota's had trouble with the fail-safe procedure with some of these cars.

A total of 744 Toyota Prius cars in Singapore have been recalled due to a fault that could result in a higher risk of the cars crashing. The company says that certain models of Prius cars are stalling on roads as the driver tries to lock the "failsafe" mode on the auto. In November 2017, Toyota recalled the 2012-2015 Prius Plug-in for fuses that could similarly shut down the entire vehicle while driving.

Prius hybrids can stall without warning due to a software error that won't detect powertrain problems and correspondingly won't place the vehicle in a "limp home" mode that restricts speed.

That recall covers about 188,000 worldwide, including 168,000 in the U.S. Those problems were also fixed by software updates to vehicles' motor electronic control units (ECUs) and hybrid drive ECUs.
