  • Vermonters head back to DC to protest Kavanaugh as allegations mount

A woman who has accused President Donald Trump's U.S. Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, of sexual assault will present senators with sworn statements from four people to corroborate her allegations, her lawyers said on Wednesday.

Committee leaders, rushing toward a scheduled Friday vote on Kavanaugh's nomination, have canceled scheduled phone calls and changed demands for allowing Ramirez to tell her story, attorney John Clune tweeted on Tuesday. 'And then I look forward to an up-or-down vote on this nomination right here on the Senate floor'.

Several Senate Republicans have called the allegations "smears" and urged a vote on Mr Kavanaugh after Thursday's hearing.

Senate Republicans have chosen Rachel Mitchell, a sex crimes prosecutor in Maricopa County, Arizona, to conduct the questioning, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing an unnamed Republican aide.

Committee chairman Chuck Grassley initially did not reveal Mitchell's identity Tuesday night, but he changed course after some sharp rebukes from Ford's attorneys and others. "I think there could be a really good reason, politically, to have a woman ask the questions". Senators were told to be prepared for a rare weekend session and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he was confident Kavanugh would be confirmed.

Liverpool injury update ahead of Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea
Georginio Wijnaldum has warned Liverpool FC not to get carried away by their record-breaking start to the Premier League season. That wasn't realistic but it's a great soundbite, and everyone expects this competition to be the most expendable.

With emotions running high, dozens of protesters were removed from the US Capitol Monday for unlawfully demonstrating against the judge's confirmation.

Ford says that in the early 1980s, a drunken, 17-year-old Kavanaugh forced her onto a bed at a house party and attempted to remove her clothes, putting his hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming, before she escaped when Kavanaugh's inebriated friend, Mark Judge, jumped on top of the two and knocked her loose. Patty Murray of Washington said of Trump's characterization.

But there's nothing ordinary about the stakes and circumstances of Kavanaugh's nomination, with Republicans fighting to get him on the court by the end of September and cement a conservative-leaning court for years to come. "So at this point, it's a moot question".

The Democrats are working hard to destroy a wonderful man, and a man who has the potential to be one of our greatest Supreme Court Justices ever, with an array of False Accusations the likes of which have never been seen before!

Meanwhile, McConnell continued to blame Democrats Tuesday morning for how they've handled the confirmation process and defended Kavanaugh against the allegations.

Team World hits back
Play resumes today with the tournament's final four matches worth three points apiece with everything to play for. Team Europe hold a 7-5 lead over Team World before the final day's action at the Laver Cup .

Republicans have been determined to keep Kavanaugh's confirmation process on track in the face of the allegations.

McConnell on Tuesday continued to defend Kavanaugh. Murkowski told reporters: "We have kind of moved beyond the qualifications of the nominee, and it has become more about whether or not women who have been subject to any form of assault, violence, intimidation are to (be) believed". "Neither Dr. Blasey Ford nor Judge Kavanaugh is on trial". "She admits she was drunk".

"I was never at any such party" as the one described by Ford, he said in the Fox interview.

"Many years after. I'll leave it at that", Kavanaugh said. We're talking about an allegation of sexual assault.
