  • ABC managing director Michelle Guthrie sacked after several months of talks

Clearly she has been engaged in a deteriorating relationship with the ABC board and its chairman, Justin Milne, and there has been lots of chatter that their respective visions for the organisation didn't overlap.

One ABC executive said the relationship between the pair was known to be "frosty". "We needed a different leadership style", Milne told the ABC on Monday.

Milne conceded Guthrie had done a "pretty good" job turning the ABC towards its digital future.

He said he could not provide any further insight into why the ABC board removed Ms Guthrie.

Mr Anderson stepped into the top job following the abrupt dismissal of Ms Guthrie yesterday, halfway through her five-year term.

David Anderson who is now ABC's head of specialist and factual will stand in as the interim managing director.

"(But) the government, I must say, has provided no pressure, no opinion, has not been involved in this decision.

Guthrie is considering her legal options.

- 'What on earth is the government's explanation for Michelle Guthrie's apparent sacking as head of the ABC.

4 Corners executive producer Sally Neighbour tweeted it was an "excellent decision" and broadcaster John Faine accused her of an "astonishing fail" in not championing the cause of the ABC more prominently.

Appointed to the role in May 2016, Guthrie was the ABC's first female managing director.

"At no point has any issue been raised with me about the transformation being undertaken, the Investing in Audiences strategy and my effectiveness in delivering against that strategy".

This person was allegedly sober at the party and is "100% sure" that it was Brett Kavanaugh about whom he had heard a story. Ramirez has not stated whether she is willing to testify, but she has called for an FBI investigation.

"Michelle challenged us in a lot of ways to be better, challenged us to free up more money for content and went about that over the last two-and-a-half years."

Fifield said today: "The government thanks Michelle Guthrie and acknowledges her service as managing director of the ABC for the past two and a half years in what is a challenging and rapidly changing media environment".

"This includes refocusing daily journalism away from lifestyle content and "clickbait" and back towards news and current affairs", the union said.

In an internal email to staff, the ABC said the board had given "long and detailed consideration to this serious matter".

Deputy Labor leader Tanya Plibersek said she was perplexed by the decision and the board's statements had not clarified it.
