Super Typhoon Mangkhut hits China; over 2.45 million people evacuated

Philippine police say the death toll from Typhoon Mangkhut has climbed to 64. It also said more than 13,300 hectares of farmland had been damaged.

As many as 391 people in Hong Kong sought medical help, according to CNN.

The super typhoon slammed into the northern Philippine province of Luzon on Saturday.

The South China Morning Post posted videos of workers clearing fallen trees from roads in the Guangdong province.

It's not immediately clear how many residents were trapped in Naga city, where rescuers were treading carefully in small groups on the unstable ground to avoid further casualties.

Fierce winds have already torn off roofs, smashed windows and downed trees in Hong Kong, as authorities warned of the threat of storm surges and flooding from torrential rain.

Genting added that Star Cruises" Star Pisces, which homeports at Hong Kong's Ocean Terminal, also "rode out the typhoon at a safe distance away from the storm and is scheduled to resume service this evening (Monday)'.

Stock and financial markets opened as normal on Monday in Hong Kong and the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.

A massive search was still underway for dozens of people feared dead after landslides in the gold-mining town of Itogon in the north.

Authorities in southern China issued a red alert, the most severe warning, as the national meteorological center said the densely populated region would face a "severe test caused by wind and rain" and urged officials to prepare for possible disasters.
