Dallas police say one of their officers was going home after her shift when she walked into the wrong apartment and shot the man inside. "And then she reported to responding officers that when she came home she entered into the victim's apartment believing it was her own apartment".

The 26-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries where he died, according to KDFW. Police say the officer explained that she had mistakenly entered Jean's home, thinking it was hers. The officer's encounter with Jean ultimately ended up with her shooting him, with police saying she "fired her weapon striking the victim".

The officer, who was not injured, was placed on administrative leave.

Hall said the officer's blood was drawn to be tested for drugs and alcohol. But another resident Bridget, who declined to provide her last name, pointed out how each door requires either a unique key, code or key fob to gain access to the apartment unit.

Two women who live on the second floor of the same apartment complex where the shooting occurred told the Dallas Morning News that they heard a lot of noise coming from a nearby apartment late Thursday night.
