UK PM May: Will not surrender to Brussels

  • May Day looms as Europe and Tory rebels round on PM's Brexit plan

"Lynton's firm is working with the ERG to run this campaign to bring down Chequers".

Asked if Arron Banks was welcome to rejoin the Tory Party, Dr Fox said: "That's up to individuals, are they willing to believe what we believe, if they do, they are welcome, the Conservative Party is a broad church".

Former Brexit secretary David Davis, who like Johnson quit over Chequers, backed May to stay in her post.

"We will remain in the European Union taxi; but this time locked in the boot, with absolutely no say on the destination", he wrote in Monday's column, criticising the plan for regulatory alignment.

Some 52% disapprove of the proposed deal - known as the Chequers plan after the Prime Minister's residence at which the cabinet agreed to the plan earlier in the summer.

But the PM's spokesman retorted: "The Chequers proposals are the only credible and negotiable plan which has been put forward and which will deliver on the will of the British people".

Russian jets hit exclusively Nusra targets in Syria's Idlib - MoD
Russian Federation has been a key supporter of Assad and complained about militants in Idlib targeting its own facilities. De Mistura said there were an estimated 10,000 fighters with UN-designated terror groups now in Idlib.

Trade minister Liam Fox, who also campaigned for Brexit but still supports May, said it was now up to the European Union to respond to the British proposal, when asked whether he though further compromises would be necessary.

We will report back if we have an update.

Formerly chief of staff to commission president Jean-Claude Juncker, the German bureaucrat was unexpectedly named secretary-general in February.

"But right now, this is the plan that's been put forward by parliament and the United Kingdom government and it's still being considered by all the different bits that make up the EU".

And Home Secretary Sajid Javid said Tories should unite behind Mrs May's blueprint, pointedly adding: "For those who think there is a different way then they need to properly set out what alternatives there might be".

"The fix is in", he wrote in a column published Monday.

Russia Resumes Air Strikes Against Rebels in Idlib, Say Monitors
But Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Monday signaled strikes could be extended to Iraq if necessary. After seven years of war, the northern province of Idlib has become the rebels' final bastion.

"The UK has agreed to hand over £40billion of taxpayers' money for two thirds of diddly squat".

The plan, named for the prime minister's country residence where it was agreed by the cabinet in July, calls for free trade between Britain and the European Union in manufactured and agricultural goods, with Britain accepting regulations over traded goods that align with European Union rules.

But Labour Party Brexit spokesman Keir Starmer said the negotiations were "in serious trouble" and that the government had no strategy except "to plow on regardless".

Davis poured scorn on May's claim that she would not be "pushed into accepting compromises on the Chequers proposals that are not in our national interest" as that risked becoming an "an incredible open sesame to all".

One potential plan is to revive the campaign group Change Britain, which some see as a possible platform for Mr Johnson's leadership campaign. "Our leadership needs to wake up and smell the coffee, by supporting a people's vote on the final deal".

In a move that may give the markets a measure of reassurance, Bank of England Governor Mark Carney said Tuesday that he was talking to the government about extending his term in office to help oversee a smooth Brexit. Facing a strengthening campaign among Brexiteers against her plan, May reiterated she would opt for no deal rather than make further concessions to Brussels.
