  • 4 updates coming to Google Chrome for its 10th birthday

If you've been a fan of Google Chrome since it first launched 10 years ago, you've probably witnessed most - if not all - of the browser's major updates. For example, the updated tab shape and color palette makes it easier to see the tab icons, which will make it easier for you to find which of the (too many) tabs you now have open. Google's also doubling down on security with an upgraded password manager that'll now automatically generate passwords for you so you don't use the same password for all your accounts.

Yes, it's nearly hard to believe that Chrome is both just 10 years old and already 10 years old at the same time.

Chrome 69 Released With Enhanced Security, Customization, and Design

Here's a treat for tab hoarders: If you search for a website that's already open in one of your dozens of tabs, Google Chrome will show a "switch to tab" option that lets you jump straight to that tab. For example, it'll now answer some of your questions directly without you even needing to open a new tab. Lastly, Google Chrome's Omnibox will soon support searching for Google Drive files, as we spotted last month.

For the developers out there, Google has introduced a bevy of new features, including Scroll Snap for CSS and display notches. To do the latter, you open a new tab and click "Add Shortcut".

If you keep a ton of tabs open all the time, you'll notice that Chrome does a better job of marking each site's icons (or favicons) in each tab.

We changed the shape of our tabs so that the website icons are easier to see, which makes it easier to navigate across lots of tabs.
Also, the browser will create complex, unique passwords, so you're not always using an easy to guess string of characters, such as passw0rd123. Gone are the sharp edge design around the tabs and the old search bar.

Google announced Chrome on September 2, 2008 and over the past few years it has become the world's most popular browser beating the likes of Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) and Mozilla's Firefox. In addition, the "New Tab" page now includes a plus button titled "Add shortcut" that essentially allows you to add a custom shortcut. Already, we're working on integrating augmented reality (AR) into Chrome to bring information that you interact with across the web and put directly into your physical environment.

There's one more update debuting alongside Chrome 69. The Google Chrome browser has finally caught up with other Google apps and their material design language.
