  • Roger Federer 'In New York you do things you shouldn't be doing'

The men's singles event of the US Open witnessed a seismic shock of sorts on Tuesday with unheralded John Millman stunning Roger Federer 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (3).

It was most striking during Lesia Tsurenko's 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-2 win against Marketa Vondrousova, in which both players seemed affected by the temperature and mugginess. She lost to Stephens again this year in the French Open semifinals.

The top-seeded Spaniard looked like he would cruise to an easy win after pocketing the first two sets but the Georgian stepped up his game to take the third set.

Federer had never lost a match at the U.S. Open to a player ranked outside the top 50.

The victor of the Djokovic-Millman quarter-final will play seventh-seeded 2014 champion Marin Cilic or Japanese star Kei Nishikori for a spot in Sunday's title match.

It was the 37-year-old's earliest loss at a slam since the Australian Open in 2015 and the first time he has ever lost to a player ranked outside the top 50 in NY. "I have so much respect for Roger and everything he's done for the game".

China is not Africa’s new colonial power - Ramaphosa
China has become a major investment partner for South Africa in stimulating economic and social transformation and development. Debt from China's interest-free loans, due by the end of 2018, would be written off for some poor African states, Mr Xi said.

The last Japanese woman to reach the final eight in a Grand Slam had been Shinobu Asagoe at the 2004 U.S. Open.

Next up for the Australian is a quarterfinal match-up against sixth seed Novak Djokovic.

Cilic, who beat Nishikori four years ago for his only major title, was a 7-6 (6), 6-2, 6-4 victor against No. 10 David Goffin, while Nishikori advanced by defeating Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3, 6-2, 7-5.

Millman cursed himself for missing one set point but threw everything into a series of forehands to bring up a second and forced Federer into another error.

Maria Sharapova won the U.S. Open as a teenager.

The defending US Open champion would not be denied and fired his seventh ace on match point to end the three hour, 20-minute tussle 6-3 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-4.

Aretha Franklin's Public Viewing Has Fans Coming Out In Droves
Mourners poured into the museum to pay their final respects to Franklin, who died August 16 of pancreatic cancer at the age of 76. Over a two-day period, the viewing will allow admirers of the singer to share their fond memories with other fans.

In the women's draw, Madison Keys eased into the quarter-finals with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova.

The 14th-seeded Keys will play the victor of the Carla Suarez Navarro vs. Maria Sharapova match in the night session at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

"I felt like a bit of a deer in headlights to begin with, to be honest with you".

In a life-changing performance, Millman left Federer - and fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium - shellshocked with a 3-6 7-5 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-3) comeback victory to book a quarter-final date with another of tennis's all-time greats, Novak Djokovic.

The Ukrainian got some help from her opponent.

Aretha Franklin Dressed In Blue For Last Public Viewing
If there's one thing Aretha taught us, it was to be original. "When a lot of people got rich and famous, they left Detroit ". The singer's gold-plated open coffin was placed on display for hundreds of grief-stricken fans at the Charles H.
