Lego builds full-scale driving Bugatti Chiron

  • A fully-functioning car has been built out of LEGO, and yes, you read that correctly

Of course, that means its performance is a little limited, especially versus the real thing: the motors' 68 lb-ft of torque and 5.3 horsepower can only accelerate the vehicle up to 20 km/h.

Fully detailed on LEGO's website, the LEGO Technic is as close to a 1:1 copy of the Bugatti Chiron as possible, built from LEGO Technic elements and powered by the same motor technology used in standard LEGO Technic models.

Aretha Franklin's Public Viewing Has Fans Coming Out In Droves
Mourners poured into the museum to pay their final respects to Franklin, who died August 16 of pancreatic cancer at the age of 76. Over a two-day period, the viewing will allow admirers of the singer to share their fond memories with other fans.

Joking aside, the Lego Technic version of the Bugatti Chiron is a full-sized achievement. As you can see in the video above, the Lego Chiron doesn't need a high-speed mode because its thousands of electric engines manage to only make 5.3 hp - just enough to get the Lego Chiron moving, but not moving too fast.

The idea for building this life-size model came from the LEGO Technic design team after completing a 1:8 scale model of the Chiron. But now, a team of ingenious and talented designers and engineers have gone above the call of duty, creating a full-size replica of the Chiron, made nearly entirely from LEGO Technic parts. Those wheels aren't made of Lego, as you might have gathered. "All those years ago I could never have imagined that one day I would actually drive a Lego auto!"

At least 6 killed, 30 injured in New Mexico bus crash
Passing motorists described a chaotic scene with passengers on the ground and people screaming. It's believed a semitrailer's tyre blew causing it to cross the median strip and crash.

What mode of transportation should LEGO try to build next? "It's a fascinating example of the LEGO Technic building system in action and its potential for creative reinvention", said Lena Dixen, Senior Vice President of Product and Marketing at the LEGO Group.

The test drive with Andy Wallace took place at the Ehra-Lessien facility in Germany, where the real Chiron was first tested. Even the car's curvaceous seats are also realistically recreated, through a series of panel, beam, and tile elements. From afar, the cars look eerily similar, perhaps only the "skin" structure of the Lego Technic pieces gives the Lego Chiron away. "I can only imagine how much time and effort went into making this model".
