  • A mass shooting has taken place at a Madden tournament in Jacksonville

- Katz went by the gaming name "Bread", gamers told CNN, and previously won Madden tournaments in 2017, gamers said.

A tweet by National Football League team Buffalo Bills two years ago shows a picture of a man named David Katz holding up a t-shirt that says "Madden champ", with the caption: "Congrats to David Katz, the Madden 17 Bills Championship victor!" He says the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot and authorities were still confirming his identity.

Katz opened fire and killed two people, wounded nine others and turn the gun on himself, the sheriff said.

Katz, a competitor at the gaming event, had two handguns and extra ammunition inside the restaurant where the competition was taking place, officials said at a news conference Monday afternoon. The city said the two were in contact regarding the reported mass shooting.

Police found Katz's vehicle near the scene of the shooting, and believed he had been staying at a nearby hotel.

Jacksonville police are unclear of Katz's motive, and whether he knew any of the victims, who have not yet been identified. Williams said investigators, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Baltimore, are working to make final confirmation of the suspect's identity.
