Cohen pleads guilty to felonies

  • Micheal Cohen is under investigation over bank and tax fraud

Paul Manafort, former campaign chairman of U.S. President Donald Trump, was on Tuesday found guilty on eight out of 18 criminal charges of bank and tax fraud by a jury at the federal court in northern Virginia, according to multiple news reports. This has been a big case in the USA, especially for the Trump administration considering Paul Manafort is a longtime political operative who had for months led Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. But for all that, Trump spent more than an hour at a rally in Charleston on Tuesday night painting a rosy view of his accomplishments in office, ticking off developments on trade, taxes, North Korea and even his plans for a Space Force.

Trump's supporters also don't care about any of this. But it doesn't alter the seriousness of the crimes of which Manafort was found guilty. Prosecutors "tried to make the case about the Russian collusion right from the beginning, and of course the judge shut them down on that", she said.

Ross Garber, a lawyer who has represented four Republican governors in impeachment proceedings, said Cohen's statement "dramatically increases the likelihood that, were Democrats to take control of the House in the midterms, they would begin an impeachment investigation".

Trump has not been named by federal prosecutors in the charges against Cohen but has been identified as "Individual 1".

Trump was not mentioned by name in United States District Court in Manhattan on Tuesday but Cohen told a judge the payments to the two women were "at the direction of the candidate, ' and 'for the principal goal of influencing the election" for president in 2016.

Taliban take 200 hostages as they reject Kabul ceasefire
He said: "The ceasefire should be observed from both sides, and its continuation and duration also depend on the Taliban's stand". Kabulov said the talks were "in the framework of launching a process of national reconciliation in Afghanistan".

Speaking about payments made to porn actress Stormy Daniels and others, supposedly to keep them quiet about alleged affairs with the president, Cohen told a U.S. judge: "I participated in this conduct, which on my part took place in Manhattan, for the principal goal of influencing the election".

"It's going to be hard for the president to try to discredit all this. I wanted him to be innocent, I really wanted him to be innocent, but he wasn't", she said. His loyal base of supporters has stayed with him despite his effort to blame "both sides" for the deadly violence between white nationalists and anti-racist protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, for one, and his refusal to side with the US intelligence services over Russia's Vladimir Putin in Helsinki last month, among other controversies.

In his tweets, Trump seized on the counts on which Manafort escaped conviction. But Mueller handed off the Cohen case to federal prosecutors in NY, which means that his guilty plea intensifies a second - and entirely separate - investigation that could threaten the president. It is unclear if prosecutors will seek to retry the remaining charges.

Trump's legal team has also been engaged in a monthslong negotiation with Mueller's team about a potential sit-down with the president, but has objected to the scope of the questions.

"Paul Manafort's a good man", he said.

Sorry, José Mourinho, but City's documentary really isn't all about you
Mourinho also said Brighton's early goals had robbed United of their "confidence". "It's definitely not good enough", Pogba said. The Iranian global was the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season and enjoyed an impressive World Cup for Team Melli.

Explosive revelations are part of very bad day for Trump. Calk ultimately did not get an administration post.

But a plea agreement Cohen signed on Tuesday made no mention of cooperation. The case threatened Clinton's reelection chances in 1996, and Bennett forced a procedural issue to the slow-working Supreme Court to make the case disappear for months.

Among Trump allies, the back-to-back blows were a harbinger of dark days to come for the president. "You're voting for which party controls the House and which party controls the Senate".

The Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel has held that a president can not be indicted while in office. "This is a witch hunt and it is a disgrace".

In a statement to United States media, Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani said, "there is no allegation of any wrongdoing against the President in the government's charges against Mr. Cohen". Trump declined to answer questions on Cohen. That ruling did not directly address whether a president could be subpoenaed to testify in a criminal investigation.
