Pochettino hints Brexit influenced Spurs' lack of transfers

  • Pochettino unfazed by Spurs’ quiet transfer window

Mauricio Pochettino is not expecting Tottenham Hotspur to make any signings before Thursday's deadline but insists he is happy with his squad and that the club can make forward strides this season.

Spurs were the only Premier League club not to make a summer signing after their move for Jack Grealish collapsed but Pochettino said: "What the club is doing is showing it is so courageous". If we have all the squad thinking as individuals rather than as a collective game, you can not achieve what you want and can not succeed. Only four hours to the end. But I am happy to keep all the squad together. He is one example but there are many examples too. "Building a new training ground, finishing this summer the (player's) lodge was a massive investment".

"Of course we didn't sell players and with 25 players in the squad it's hard to add".

Dozens killed, including children on a bus, in Yemen air strikes
Global rights groups repeated calls for an end to the war and strongly condemned the bus attack and other civilian massacres. The Houthis' al-Masirah TV reported that 39 people had been killed and 51 wounded, saying they were "mostly children".

"That maybe looks bad because of the perception and history of football but that is our decision - to keep the best players and to keep the squad".

But there have been no new arrivals in north London, something which the Spurs manager said was in part down to Brexit making players more expensive. Now we have players who compete at a high level in the World Cup, we have the captain who lifted the trophy. That is a fantastic experience for him to translate to our team. "We are going to be better - no doubt about that".

When talking in a media session about Spurs' opening fixture against Newcastle this Saturday lunchtime, Pochettino addressed the rumours, saying: "We didn't receive (any offer) for any player". Then you need to change your mind and think about the team and the collective. The transfer market finishes today and people who understand it better than myself will debate whether it is a good or bad idea to be different to the rest of Europe.

Europe is getting a Smash Ultimate limited edition
At E3 earlier this year, Nintendo dedicated a lot of time to showing off Super Smash Bros Ultimate . There will, of course, be new items and Pokemon to use in Super Smash Bros Ultimate too.

Mauricio Pochettino ended last season seemingly hopeful of retaining the bulk of his squad but also keen to bring in some new box office players to light up the club's new stadium. "We hope he's still our player by Friday", Villa manager Steve Bruce told BBC West Midlands earlier this week.

Tottenham have become the first Premier League club to go an entire summer without signing a single player since the transfer window was created in 2003.
