Trump lawyer: If Mueller subpoenas president, case will go to Supreme Court

  • Trump blasts media at Pennsylvania rally

President Donald Trump tweeted on Sunday that the 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with top Trump campaign officials and a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer was to get information on his opponent Hillary Clinton.

In a tweet about that report on Sunday, Trump said, "This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere".

As he has in the past, Trump insisted in a tweet that he did not know at the time about the meeting between his son Donald Jr. and Natalia Veselnitskaya, a lawyer with links to the Kremlin.

One of the key concerns for Trump's lawyers is whether or not they should allow the president to sit with prosecutors led by Robert Mueller, the special counsel overseeing the federal probe. When the story of the meeting broke wide open in July of past year, Trump Jr. quickly issued a statement - which was dictated by his father - that the meeting had been about Russian adoption.

The revelation that the Trump Tower meeting was called to transmit damaging information on Clinton is not a new one.

Osama Bin Laden's Mum Has Broken Her 17-Year Silence
Usama bin Laden's brother has pleaded with the Al Qaeda founder's son Hamza not to follow in his infamous father's footsteps. She said bin Laden was radicalized at the King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, where he was studying economics.

In saying that he isn't concerned, Trump has nevertheless torpedoed his past defense of the meeting in claiming it was indeed about getting dirt on his presidential campaign opponent, Hilary Clinton.

"I had bad information at the time and made a mistake in my statement", Sekulow said Sunday, noting that he had only been working for Trump a short time when he made the misstatement a year ago.

President Trump's "fixer" Michael Cohen has reportedly claimed that then-candidate Trump approved the meeting ahead of time.

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon have suggested that Trump, at a minimum, knew of the meeting soon after it took place.

Far from something that is "done all the time", Trump's admission would make him the first USA presidential candidate in history to admit accepting campaign aid from the Russian government.

College Lake Dam ‘stable’ after heavy rain
A flash-flood watch is in effect through 6 pm Friday in Lynchburg, with 1 to 3 more inches of rain expected. If you are in low lying areas below the College Lake Dam, you should move to higher ground immediately .

Donald Trump Jr, along with his father, US President Donald Trump, and others in the administration have downplayed the importance of the meeting.

"I have no knowledge at all of Don Jr. being told he is the target of any investigation and I have no knowledge of him being interviewed by the special counsel", Mr. Sekulow said Sunday.

President Trump is back at his resort in Bedminster, New Jersey, and this morning he released another flurry of tweets, including one about his son Don Jr. Trump seems to be arguing against his own point by assuring us that he had nothing to do with this meeting, which - oh, by the way - was totally on the up-and-up.

Sekulow said the important thing was that Trump's legal team shared accurate information with the special counsel.

"If I ask Donald a question, 'What time is it?' He would probably tell me how to build a clock", the lawyer explained. He said he was not aware of Trump Jr. facing any legal exposure. And at a trio of rallies, he escalated his already vitriolic rhetoric toward the media, savaging the press for unflattering coverage and, he feels, bias.

USA wildfires scorching homes, land - and California's annual budget
The two fires have killed eight people, with the Carr Fire alone responsible for six of the deaths. More than 4,200 firefighters are battling the flames, which have raged for 11 days so far.

Sekulow also downplayed comments made by the president's other attorney, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who recently said that collusion is not a crime, calling them "rather unremarkable".
