Over 500 arrested at US Capitol as women protest border separations

Capitol Police arrested almost 600 Women's March protesters who filled the atrium of the Hart Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill today in opposition to the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance" border enforcement policies.
Cheered on by some Democratic lawmakers who walked among them, the women said they were pushed to the protest by President Trump'szero tolerance policy which sparked separations of children from their parents.
The protest was organized and promoted by Women's March, the same group that mounted a massive protest effort previous year shortly after President Donald Trump took office.
Protesters in the Hart Senate Office Building unfurled banners that read: "End all detention camps" and "Families belong together in freedom".
Wearing stickers that said "Deport Trump", and "F**k Trump" shirts, the protestors chanted slogans like "No ban no wall, America is home to all".
Congresswoman Jayapaltweeted a video of the protest with the caption, "Today's action is a mass protest, risking arrest, by powerful women, and I'm proud to be a part of it". That police had led to the separation of thousands of children from their parents before the Trump administration halted the separations in late June.
Democrat Senators Kristen Gillibrand and Elizabeth Warren, both likely presidential candidates in 2020, and number of other elected officially fully participated.
The demonstrators were taken into custody by Capitol Police. They were processed on the scene and released.
The Democratic senator Jeff Merkley of OR, who was one of the first to draw attention to children being held in detention camps along the border after being separated from their parents, appeared before the crowd. Kirsten Gillibrand of NY, and Sen.
Rallies in Cape May and Bordentown were recently added to the list of New Jersey events. ICE, of course, refers to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. Eight people also were arrested outside an Ice building in Portland, Oregon, that has been closed because of a round-the-clock demonstration.
