As he set out for their historic summit in Singapore the United States president said he was going on a "mission of peace" but would not "waste my time" if he thought Kim was insincere.

Trump gave the comments before departing a contentious G7 conference in Canada, during which he confronted top United States allies over trade and drew scrutiny for calling for Russian Federation to be readmitted to the group of nations - and days before his much-anticipated summit with Kim.

"As the venue and time of the summit have already been announced, security for Kim Jong Un will be tighter than for any other VIPs", said the professor, who was the first academic to establish a university major in South Korea on guarding and protection.

"I have a clear objective but I have to say it's going to be something that will always be spur of the moment", Trump said, of his approach to the meeting and attempts to establish peace with a reclusive, authoritarian and nuclear-armed regime. "I think that Chairman Kim Jong Un is prepared to do that as well", he said.

"POTUS ran against experts - the "eggheads" - and believes that rebalancing our policies on trade, defense spending, security, etc., simply makes sense", a White House official told Axios at the time.

Aide who dismissed McCain could resurface in administration
The Trump administration declined to publicly apologise and Trump demanded a crackdown on whoever leaked the story to the media. Kelly Sadler , the White House aide who made that infamous nasty comment about John McCain , is no longer at the White House.

Rubio, who applauded Trump's now-reversed decision to cancel the summit, said at the time that it was apparent that Kim's goal "was either to gain sanctions relief in exchange for nothing or to collapse worldwide sanctions by making the US appear to be the unreasonable party".

"You know the way they say that you know if you're going to like somebody in the first five seconds?" "I think it would be well received and I think [Kim] would look at it very favorably".

How long will it take to figure out if they're serious?

Kim has taken only one known overseas trip by air since becoming leader in 2011 and the Ilyushin-76 cargo plane accompanied his personal Ilyushin-62M jet to Dalian in China in May.

Korea and placing heavy pressure on China, one of North Korea's biggest allies.

May tells Trump that U.S. tariffs on European Union steel are unjustified
The move follows a US decision to impose tariffs on imports of Mexican steel and aluminum purchases, which took effect on Friday. Trump suggested last week that NAFTA could be replaced with two separate trade accords , one with Mexico and another with Canada.

Trump, clearly eager for a summit he can sell as a success, has played into the concerns that he may find himself outmatched at the negotiating table by Kim. "We're going in with a very positive spirit". In my meetings with North Korea's foreign ministry, its officials have repeatedly emphasized that only a leader-to-leader dialogue could break the nuclear impasse.

She said she hoped the high-level discussions between Mr Kim and other world leaders will lead to greater engagement and encourage more institutions to form connections with North Koreans. After a gathering marked by both acrimony and banter, The US President left prematurely for Singapore and a possibly more momentous meeting - with North Korea's Kim Jong-un. "It really amazed me and I thought we can learn a lot". He said he was told to stay away from Sentosa Island and the Shangri-La Hotel.

The US president is the first of the G7 leaders to leave the summit in Canada where he has briefed his peers on the meeting.

After Trump withdrew the USA from the Iran deal, his last bout of nuclear negotiations, the news website Axios reported that Trump was pleased by the largely negative reaction by prominent academics.

"The U.S. press is very dishonest", Trump said.
