  • White House adviser Jared Kushner speaks in the East Room of the White House in Washington. Kushner Presiden

The White House has defended the lengthy process of granting Kushner's clearance, saying it is not uncommon for people with complicated business ties and many foreign contacts to have to wait as long as he did.

"He has continued this complete cooperation, providing a large number of documents and sitting for hours of interviews with congressional committees and providing numerous documents and sitting for two interviews with the Office of Special Counsel", Lowell said. This caps a almost 18- month review of his security application, which was held up after Kushner failed to disclose contacts he had with foreign officials - including Russians - as required by law. "Having completed these processes, Mr. Kushner is looking forward to continuing the work the president has asked him to do".

"In each occasion, he answered all questions asked and did whatever he could to expedite the conclusion of all the investigations".

Kushner, who is also the president's son-in-law, had previously been working off of an interim security clearance until late February, when Kelly set a deadline for halting access to top-secret information for anyone whose applications had been pending since June 1 or earlier.

Paul Lowe, D-Forsyth, said he was moved by hearing another round of teacher stories, those from Forsyth and across North Carolina. The one-day labor action caused numerous school districts across the state to cancel classes for more than 1 million students .

The granting of the security clearance suggests that investigators' scrutiny of Kushner has decreased significantly.

But now with the granting of his permanent security clearance, Jared Kushner has once again gained access to some of the nation's biggest secrets, which includes the presidential daily brief - a cumulative summary of all the intelligence updates the president receives from the intelligence community every day.

Senior adviser Jared Kushner and his wife Ivanka Trump arrive for news conference with President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the East Room of the White House in Washington, Friday, March 17, 2017.

Some had expected Kushner might not receive a permanent clearance for the duration of Mueller's investigation. Kushner previously sat for an interview last November, which was largely focused on former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who soon after pleaded guilty to charges of making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Oil rallies to fresh 3-year high
Consequently, the price of Brent and WTI rose from $76.80 to $77.99 and $70.50 to $70.91 respectively in the global market. The previous round of sanctions cut Iran's output in half; it is unclear how much will be cut this time.

Kushner's initial SF-86 form did not mention any foreign contacts, though he quickly supplemented it to indicate that he would provide that information.

The White House said in February that Kushner's loss of top secret clearance would not affect his diplomatic activities, and apparently it has not done so.

But experts also pointed to more innocuous explanations, including that Kushner's extensive travel and overseas contacts, as well as his business interests, are more complex than many incoming government officials and might have taken more time for the Federal Bureau of Investigation to explore.
