On Sunday, cybersecurity consultant Jackie Stokes tweeted out a Tinder conversation that appeared to show a Facebook employee bragging about their ability to obtain data on users.

In the chat, the man says his job responsibilities involved being "more than" a security analyst, and that he has to 'figure out who hackers are in real life, ' or in other words, being a 'professional stalker'.

While concerns have been raised regarding the amount of non-public information Facebook employees and contractors have access to, a former Facebook employee told the publication there are consequences to abusing access. Executives at the social network were made aware of the claim and immediately launched an investigation after receiving all relevant information from Stokes.

"Although we can't comment on any individual personnel matters", a Facebook spokesperson wrote in an email, "we are aware of the situation and investigating". The irony was not lost on Motherboard reporter Joseph Cox: "Firing an employee for using company collected data to stalk women at the same time as announcing a dating service is very 2018 Silicon Valley".
