Facebook and Instagram Stories open to sharing from other apps

The trend seems to be holding up nicely, as Instagram announced today that it is testing out a new video chat feature. Users are able to chat one-on-one or with a group, and can minimize the video and continue the chat while looking at other content on Instagram.

Initial partners include Spotify - so you can share a sticker of songs, playlists or albums to an Instagram Story - and GoPro, to share recent action shots from the GoPro camera app.

During Facebook's F8 developer conference Tuesday, the company revealed a new feature that allows individuals to share Spotify content via their Instagram Stories.

'From there you can edit and add to your story or send it via Direct.

The firm is also rolling out new interactive camera effects, and has overhauled its Explore tab to organize content into 'topic channels'. Instagram's official announcement today notes that 100 million users use the Live feature every day, and as such, it sees a reason to launch a video calling feature. Instagram has also updated its automatic removal of negative comments and the platform will now delete comments that contain "attacks on a person's appearance or character, as well as threats to a person's well-being or health".

What's more, the tool will show a "deep link" to the song so that when someone shares a song, it will play automatically from the Instagram story.

A Slow-Mo mode might also be coming to Instagram Stories, if Jane Manchun Wong's screenshots are anything to go by.

In addition, Instagram said it's redesigning the Explore section of the app, which will roll out over the next few weeks. As the Facebook scandal has taught us, sometimes a bit too much information.

That's why in the coming weeks, the video chat functionality will be rolled out to Instagram.
