  • Instant Analysis Leighton Vander Esch is a game-changer for Cowboys D

Covington is the second linebacker taken by the Cowboys in this year's draft. Those players were rated much higher on other teams boards than Vander #Esch, but #The Cowboys liked him from the very start.

Quarterbacks dominated the top 15 picks - although Cleveland's selection of Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield as the first pick was a surprise - leaving most of the Cowboys' targets on the board as the team got ready to make its selection.

The Cowboys organization and its fans should be happy with this pick.

The Cowboys drafted Boise State LB Leight Vander Esch with their first round pick - the 19th overall - on Thursday night.

Most oil refinery victims treated and released, 1 remains hospitalized
Officials ordered an evacuation of a wide area around the Husky Energy refinery to reduce the public's exposure to the plume. Neither the police department nor the Douglas County Emergency Management Agency immediately responded to phone messages.

Vander Esch was also named the Most Valuable Defensive Player of Boise State's 17-14 victory over Fresno State in the 2017 Mountain West Championship Game.

Over on the sidelines, former Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore will be coaching the quarterbacks in his first season since retiring.

The Cowboys now do not have a true Middle linebacker as Anthony Hitchens left in free agency to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Vander Esch comes from the small Idaho town of Riggins, with a population of only a few hundred. With Lee in the lineup, the defense is among the best in terms of yards and points allowed per game.

Investigators work to determine cause of blast at Wisconsin refinery
At least 10 people were taken to area hospitals, one of whom was seriously injured, said a spokeswoman for Essentia Health-St. But she said it's clear people shouldn't be breathing it in and she wonders how it will affect the water and air quality.

But perhaps the greatest hole in the Cowboys roster was in its linebacking corps. He's a big, bruising running back who could give starter Ezekiel Elliott a breather and could give the Cowboys another goal-line option.

He will more than likely play outside at the linebacker position at the pro level.

In doing so, Williams heard his name called with the No. 50 pick, and thus, becomes the first Longhorns offensive lineman drafted since Tony Hills in 2008. "I don't think that we're going to live in a world right now that we used to live in with Dez, a true No. 1 guy".
