The jury, sequestered since the trial began on 9 April, was due to begin day two of deliberations at 9 a.m. on Thursday, after a six-hour session on Wednesday, when jurors asked to rehear parts of the case. He says the woman consented.

The disgraced comedian, 80, initially showed no emotion and looked down at the table in front of him as the verdicts were read, but lashed out after jurors left the courtroom. Constand told jurors she was "jolted awake" by the feeling of his fingers in her vagina as she lay on a couch in Cosby's home.

Bill Cosby was convicted Thursday of sexual assault by a U.S. jury, which found him guilty of drugging and molesting a university employee 14 years ago in the first celebrity trial of the #MeToo era.

Defense attorney Kathleen Bliss chastised Constand for "cavorting around with a married man old enough to be her grandfather".

Cosby remains free on his current bail, with instructions not to leave the country.

But she echoed the Prime Minister, saying there was nothing wrong with trying to remove people who were in the country unlawfully. The Home Office has launched a major review to check whether anyone has been incorrectly deported.

Prosecutor Kristen Feden seized on the characterization of Constand as a scheming con artist during closing arguments, saying it was Cosby who deployed his wholesome TV image to gain the trust of women he planned to incapacitate and assault.

It was the only criminal case to arise from a barrage of allegations from 62 women who have publicly said the former TV star drugged and molested them over a span of five decades.

Only one other accuser was permitted to testify at Cosby's first trial.

Despite more than 50 women coming forward with sexual assault claims against Cosby, the alleged assault of Constand has been the only one contested in court.

They also heard Cosby admitting he had obtained seven prescriptions of Quaaludes, a now banned 1970s party drug, from a Los Angeles doctor for back pain with a view to having sex with other women. Cosby has admitted that he and Constand had sexual contact in his house around 2004, but he has long maintained it was consensual.

Cosby's new defense team, led by Mesereau, the celebrity attorney who won an acquittal for Michael Jackson on child-molestation charges, launched a highly aggressive attack on Constand and the other women. Cosby, who had been silent throughout the trial, shouted back.

"I want to see a serial rapist convicted", Thomas said.

Cosby's defense lawyers had presented logs from flights he took on a private jet in January 2004 as evidence that he wasn't in his suburban Philadelphia mansion during the month Constand said he sexually assaulted her there.

Andrea Constand, the woman at the center of the charges, hugged loved ones as she exited the courthouse.
