Mets move 'pissed off' Matt Harvey to bullpen following latest poor start

Callaway also believes the move can help Harvey, stating how he's seen pitchers work in relief then carry those gains to the rotation. In his final start before the demotion, he went six innings giving up six earned runs on eight hits, striking out four, and walking one in a Mets 12-4 loss to the Atlanta Braves.

Mets manager Mickey Callaway has told reporters that the club plans to move longtime starter and former ace Matt Harvey to the bullpen (h/t Mike Puma of the New York Post).

On Thursday night, Matt Harvey snapped an ugly streak of failing to complete more than five innings in 12 straight starts dating back to a year ago.

Harvey wasn't receptive to a question about possibly moving to the bullpen.

"I've always been a starting pitcher", Harvey said when asked if he would be comfortable going to the bullpen. "I don't think he is obviously very happy about it. What we are trying to do as a team is do what's best for the team and for the players". Back then, in simpler times, Harvey was the Mets' ace, coming off a season in which he posted a 2.71 ERA and struck out almost a batter an inning.

Prince's sister troubled by death investigation
Thousands of people have shown up for live music, panel discussions and special presentations highlighting Prince . The recording artist was found unresponsive in an elevator at Paisley Park, where he died at age 57.

"I don't have to agree with it, but I have to go out there and do the best I can to get things going", said Harvey.

Matt Harvey is not a starting pitcher anymore. "But sometimes decisions are decisions and people have to live with them. We have a lot of faith and confidence in what they're able to do".

The decision on Harvey won't be made by Callaway alone.

"Dave and I have both seen guys go to the bullpen and come out of it better than they were before", Callaway said. The rest of September continued to be mired with inconsistency and Harvey finished the season 5-7 with a 6.70 ERA.

The filing deadline has passed, but it will be filed if the lawsuit's decision is appealed to a higher court. The city of Escondido voted to support the Trump administration's lawsuit earlier in April.

Left-hander Jason Vargas will reportedly take Harvey's spot in the rotation.

Vargas (broken right hand) is scheduled to be evaluated by a doctor Saturday and start for Triple-A Las Vegas Monday.

Vargas tied for the major league lead in wins a year ago with Kansas City. He hit spring training in decent physical shape, however, and there was much talk about a possible Harvey Renaissance.

"We haven't made that determination yet", Callaway said. He helped the Mets reach the World Series in 2015, missed half of the 2016 season following surgery to correct Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, and he was out more than two months last season with a right shoulder injury.
