Launched from warplanes and naval destroyers, the burst of missiles and bombs struck Syria shortly after 4 a.m. local time today.

In his first reaction after military of the three countries carried out strikes against the chemical weapons infrastructure of Syria, Trump declared "Mission Accomplished". The city and the hills are surrounded by military facilities, and it appeared that these were among the targets.

In the aftermath of air strikes launched on Syrian soil by United States President Donald Trump, French foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has claimed that a "large part" of the Damascus government's arsenal "has been destroyed". It was not clear whether they hit anything.

Gen. Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said there was some "activity" by Syrian surface-to-air missiles, but there were no reports of US or allied casualties. Russian Federation has several military bases and thousands of troops in Syria, and the U.S. said Friday that it did not coordinate with or notify Russian Federation of the strikes.

May has repeatedly said that the missile strike on Syria was not about "regime change". Still in his pyjamas, Hammoud scrambled to join the crowds of people heading to the famed Umayyad Square to show their support for Syria's President Bashar al-Assad.

Britain Says Russia Spied On Skripals For Years Before Poisoning
Also Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov responded to an global chemical weapons watchdog's report on the poisoning. Meanwhile, Russia's ambassador has accused the British authorities of destroying evidence in the Salisbury nerve agent attack.

British Prime Minister Theresa May described the strike as "limited and targeted", with no intention of toppling Assad or intervening more widely in the war.

"Nothing is certain in these kinds of matters", he said. "Nations of the world can be judged by the friends they keep. No nation can succeed in the long run by promoting rogue states, brutal tyrants and murderous dictators".

Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White warned that Russian Federation was actively attempting to sow confusion about the attack.

However, President Vladimir Putin has denounced the strikes, calling them an "act of aggression". More than 100 missiles were fired in the capital city of Damascus by the United States and its allies- France and Britain.

Trump said the strikes were meant to deter the use of chemical weapons like the attack on civilians in the Syrian town of Douma last week. But Friday night, the White House released what it said was "a significant body of information" that pointed to the use of chlorine gas - and possibly also the deadly nerve agent sarin.

The President's mood has rarely been more sour, people close to him say.

Over 100 missiles were launched at civilian and military facilities in Syria in response to an alleged gas attack in Douma that has been widely blamed on Assad's forces.

But she also emphasized the limits of the operation's goals, reflecting the reluctance in London as well as Washington to become too immersed in the fratricidal war in Syria.
