PlayStation 5 Likely Won't Release Until 2020

  • Sony Might Roll Out the Next Generation PlayStation 5 This Year

This suggests that at the earliest we'd see a PlayStation 5 in 2020, though Sony could always change plans depending on what its competitors do. If the next PlayStation was set to be released sometime in the next couple of years then there would likely be a lot more talk about it amongst developers and other industry figures.

Rumours regarding Sony's next console have been swirling for much of this year, but the sources haven't been reputable, and so we've ignored them. Sony released the PlayStation 4 about five years ago.

This particular discussion seems to have started when a website ran an article that claimed that PlayStation 5 development kits have already been sent out to developers. The Japanese company is selling so many PS4 and PS4 Pro units that it should be in no rush to bring out the PS5.

Iranian, Pakistani groups send aid to Syria
In recent weeks, government forces have recaptured villages and towns in the eastern Ghouta suburbs of the capital. Area of atrocity is in lockdown and encircled by Syrian Army, making it completely inaccessible to outside world.

After the recent SemiAccurate report, Kotaku has investigated the possibility that a PlayStation 5 could be coming in 2018 or 2019, ruling it out based on the different sources it was able to communicate with during and after the GDC. The people he spoke with have not heard of plans for the next-generation console, which should not be the case if it will indeed be launching soon. Assuming arly dev kits are in the wild, that still puts the PlayStation 5 on track for a late 2019 or 2020 release. He has deduced that even though Sony has said nothing about the console, developers usually have some idea about imminent launches.

Because of this, the report argues that the PS5 could be released in 2018.

While Microsoft has been on a tear making the Xbox One backwards compatible with older games, the PS4 can't run games from the PS3. An employee at a major gaming studio told Kotaku that they had received the proper PlayStation 4 devkits about a year before the console's release in November 2013.

Syria air base attack: 14 killed, including Iranian forces
The children of Eastern Ghouta, in the suburb of the capital Damascus, have already suffered through years of violence. He added that it also hit posts outside the base used by the Iranians and Iran-backed fighters.

This would have the benefit of full (backward and forward) compatibility, though as a downside the Xbox One X's CPU could prove to be a bottleneck for next-generation games.

However, just because logic dictates that it's possible doesn't mean Sony will make that scenario happen.
