  • Housing advocacy group backs governor candidate Cynthia Nixon, Gov. Cuomo defends his record of creating affordable housing

When Cynthia Nixon announced her bid for governor of NY in March, against incumbent Andrew Cuomo, the whole thing seemed fairly freakish.

Cynthia Nixon, the former "Sex and the City" star who is mounting a progressive challenge to New York's Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the upcoming state election, wants to legalize marijuana in NY. On The Wendy Williams Show, Nixon said: "There's such an appetite for real progressive change in NY state, I'm absolutely for the legalization of marijuana". In January 2018. Cuomo proposed a study in his 2018 budget plan that explores the potential impacts of recreational marijuana use in New York State.

"Someone should actually show Ms. Nixon New York's housing laws - they were strengthened both times they were up for renewal under this Governor, who also secured a record $20 billion in state funding to fight homelessness and build affordable housing". But he has directed the state Department of Health to conduct a study on the health, economic and criminal justice impacts legalized marijuana could have across NY, especially now that neighboring Vermont and MA have legalized it.

Quinn, 51, was the first lesbian to become Speaker and is still a notable political force, serving as Vice Chair of the New York State Democratic Committee. While usage rates among whites and people of color are almost identical, most individuals arrested for marijuana possession are black or Latino.

"The simple truth is for white people, the use of marijuana has effectively been legal for a long time", Nixon added.

In her interview, she highlighted the issues she wants to focus on: criminal justice reform, campaign finance reform, education reform, and marijuana legalization. "You have MA, you have New Jersey talking about it - that would be a fundamentally different situation for the state of NY". "We have to stop putting people of color in jail for something that white people do with impunity".

Israel hit the base, known as T4, in February, after it said an Iranian drone that violated Israeli airspace took off from it. On the contrary, the Syrian state denied government forces had launched any chemical attack and have called the reports fake.

In the video, Nixon does not explicitly talk about the NYPD or de Blasio or his continued support for broken windows policing.

A message left with Cuomo's campaign wasn't immediately returned Tuesday.
