Ride-hailing company Uber Technologies Inc. said on Monday it has acquired electric bike service JUMP Bikes, in a deal that further consolidates the crowded bike-sharing industry and allows Uber to offer US passengers an alternative to cars.

That's why I think further integration into the Uber app will be such a big deal, especially as the service expands into more cities. Several of Uber's global competitors, including Chinese giant Didi, have invested in or partnered with bike-share startups.

Uber has announced its purchase of bike-sharing platform Jump, which offers users access to electric bikes.

What this means is that Uber users in Singapore can continue using its services until April 15.

EPL: Spurs set to compound Stoke woes
Most thought that signalled the end of his career at Tottenham and were waiting to see what the player would say. For me it will be a tougher game than at Stamford Bridge, against Stoke .

"Joining Uber presents us with the opportunity to realize our dreams faster and at a much larger scale".

At Uber, we're focused on championing smart technology for smart cities. In San Francisco, for instance, Jump only has a permit to operate 250 dockless electric bikes.

Uber said that the data from its ride network allows the company to understand the best locations to place the bicycles in different cities, so they can be used more frequently.

Why it happened: Uber says it's "committed to bringing together multiple modes of transportation" so that its customers "can choose the fastest or most affordable way" to get around. The bicycles will be getting ridden more than just six times per day typically, according to Rzepecki. A JUMP e-bike ride of 30 minutes costs about $2.

Future iPhones could feature curved screens and touch-free iOS
The technology could be useful for augmented reality, which is where Apple has put in a lot of effort in the past couple of years. We actually know how this might look in reality thanks to LG's G Flex , which curved vertically instead of horizontally.

JUMP is part of the bike-sharing craze that made its way to the United States after sweeping through China. Jump's team will stay "independent and focused on growth vs. integration", with CEO Ryan Rzepecki reporting directly to Khosrowshahi, Uber's CEO told his company in an email this morning (April 9).

The acquisition comes on the heels of a rough period for Uber, which included charges of sexual harassment, hacking scandals, and changes in leadership. Both Uber and Jump work on a similar product, and it makes sense for them to collaborate on sustainable public transport. Instead, e-bikes simply amplify your pedaling efforts so that you can pedal lightly to travel at high speeds. However, some cities have complained that dockless bikes have become a nuisance, clogging sidewalks or left damaged in odd locations. The service now operates in the Washington D.C. and San Francisco areas. He added, "Our hometown pilot is off to a very strong start, with riders enjoying a convenient and environmentally friendly way to cruise up and down our trademark hills".

Ryan Rzepecki, Jump's chief executive, started working on bike sharing nearly a decade ago, initially with a company called Social Bicycles that sold bicycles to different cities.
