  • Actress Cynthia Nixon announces that she is running for Governor of New York at a campaign stop in Brooklyn New York U.S

The liberal activist and "Sex and the City" actress took aim at Cuomo in her first official campaign appearance, telling the audience at the Bethesda Healing Center in Brooklyn that she had just made it to the event "in the nick of time" because of subway delays that she blamed on "Cuomo's MTA". "I've tried to change that perception my entire professional life and have suffered the impact of people believing that".

Cynthia Nixon's first campaign event as a candidate for governor of NY, where she planned to criticize incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo's handling of the subway and the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), got off to a late start when she was delayed by stalled subways. "The real point I am trying to make is that qualifications matter and records matter".

"To be clear, Cynthia Nixon's identity has no bearing on her candidacy and it was not my intention to suggest it did", she wrote. "Being an actress and celebrity doesn't make you qualified for public office".

"My being a lesbian or her being a lesbian, I think, has nothing to do with why we're running for office", Nixon said. "Participating in rallies is important".

Quinn, 51, was the first lesbian to become Speaker and is still a notable political force, serving as Vice Chair of the New York State Democratic Committee. Now she wants to be an unqualified lesbian to be the governor of NY.

More recently, she has been delving into issues of keen interest to New York City, the main blue stronghold in a state where suburban and rural towns upstate tend to run red. Well, you're wrong. For those of you who may have plans to visit New York, live in New York, or are even slightly aware that New York is the only city from which the rest of America might model their own public transport systems (here's looking at you LA), you should know, trains here suck. Nixon would be the first woman elected to New York's highest office as well as its first [known] LGBTQ governor.

"She's an accomplished actress, a supporter of political causes and that's a good thing. This is a time to move away from celebrity and toward progressive leadership".

Nixon has her work cut out for her.

Swansea out of FA Cup after Spurs loss
Spurs finished as runners-up to Chelsea FC in the Premier League table after being the west London club's closest challengers. Tottenham settled the quicker of the two teams though, and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 11th minute.

Nixon didn't seem all too bothered by Quinn's comments, however. "Her being a lesbian and my being a lesbian" is not the issue, she said.
