  • Sheriff official 3 injured in Maryland high school shooting

Blaine Gaskill, a St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office deputy with SWAT training who had been positioned at Great Mills High School since the beginning of the school year, immediately responded after being alerted of the shooting, officials said.

The gunman was identified as Austin Wyatt Rollins, and Cameron said there was "an indication" the teenager had a prior relationship with the female student, although that was still under investigation. According to NBC News 4, the female student had life-threatening injuries and the other student, a 14-year-old male, was in good condition.

A student shot and critically wounded two fellow students at a Maryland high school before a campus security officer ended the attack by wounding the shooter yesterday morning.

The school resource officer who engaged with an active shooter at a Maryland high school on Tuesday has been recognized for his "exemplary judgment" before.

Jonathan Freese, a student at Great Mills, called CNN from his cell phone as he was in lockdown in math class. Police were going through classrooms to clear the school, Freese said.

Karen McDougal files lawsuit to discuss alleged Trump affair
McDougal's 23-page lawsuit comes on the heels of efforts by adult film star Stormy Daniels to get out of a similar hush agreement. The lawsuit alleges that McDougal was "duped" by her then-lawyer, Keith Davidson , into signing the agreement.

Under the banner #ENOUGH, tens of thousands of United States high school students walked out of classrooms around the country on March 14 to protest gun violence.

"He had to cover significant ground", Cameron said.

Republican Gov. Larry Hogan, meanwhile, accused the Democrat-led legislature of failing to take action on "one of the most aggressive school safety plans in the country". "This is what we prepare for", Cameron said at the end of an initial press briefing Tuesday morning. "We may not ever know", he said. "About an hour or two later they came - more police came - and told us they would search us and search our bags and stuff".

Neighbors in a nearby community prayed for their friends and colleagues during a small vigil following a shooting at southern Maryland school.

"Gaskill fired at the shooter nearly simultaneously as the shooter fired", Cameron said.

Jake Heibel told parents that school officials interviewed two students in February who were overheard mentioning a school shooting and found that they posed no threat. Gun control advocates, however, have urged for a ban on semiautomatic rifles, stricter background checks and other measures to limit ease of access to weapons.

One Twitter user Mollie Davis, claiming to be a student at the school, posted a message online saying: "There was a loud sound and everyone started screaming and running". "Life is all about choices and every choice has a effect whether it be positive or negative", said Superintendent Curtis Rhodes of Texas' Needville Independent School District.

"We've got to take action", Hogan said.

The school district's superintendent, James Smith, said what happened is not so unusual any more. Investigators say Rollings fired his semi-automatic handgun at the same time.

A spokesman for the FBI's Baltimore field office said its agents are on the scene of the incident.
