  • Memo: No Tanks, 'Older' Aircraft at Trump's Military Parade

President Donald Trump has requested a military parade, similar to the one he attended on Bastille Day last summer in France (pictured here), likely to be held in Washington, D.C. this fall.

The Pentagon memo did not include a cost estimate for the parade. There won't be any tanks in consideration of Washington's roadways, but the plan calls for wheeled military vehicles to roll through the streets.

The parade Trump was referring to is the Bastille Day parade he attended a year ago in Paris.

According to Politico, which was first to report on the memo, the event will also highlight the growing role that women play in the us military.

There, the trailers are hitched onto self-driving trucks for long highway hauls, according to the San Francisco-based company. Waymo is starting out small with this pilot test, using these semi trucks to carry cargo destined for Google's data centers.

The parade will focus on the contributions of veterans throughout the history of the United States military, starting with the Revolutionary War, and highlight the evolution of women veterans from second world war to the present, according to the memo. "But the generals would love to do it, I can tell you, and so would I", Trump told Fox News in February.

As planning continues, the memo gave no more details on the type of weaponry to be featured in the parade. Northern Command, which oversees USA troops in North America, will execute the parade.

Trump ordered the celebration last month after he was enthralled by the pomp and circumstance of Bastille Day on a visit to France.

The memo from the office of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis offers initial planning guidance to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, whose staff will plan the parade along a route from the White House to the Capitol, and integrate it with the city's annual veterans' parade. Also participating will be veterans groups and the ceremonial Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps.

"President Trump is incredibly supportive of America's great servicemembers who risk their lives every day to keep our country safe", White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said after news got out.

Trump was apparently inspired to throw a military parade after attending France's Bastille Day celebration in France previous year.
