This year's flu season got off to an early start, and it's been driven by a nasty strain - the H3N2 virus - that tends to put more people in the hospital and cause more deaths than other flu bugs.

In New York, state officials say a drastic rise in flu cases hospitalized more than 1,600 this past week.

At the January 10 Delaware County Council meeting, Avetian reported 385 cases of flu in Delaware County since October. "In addition, the CDC reports that receiving the influenza vaccination is the best method of protection against the flu". "They will be collecting data reported by states, hospitals, others, and they'll be reporting out critical information needed for state and local health authorities to provide, track, prevent and treat the disease", an official said as quoted in a Reuters report.

Flu patients over 65 are most prone to needing hospital care, the report finds, but rates are high for people between the ages of 50 and 64.

Border area residents run for lives amid continuous ceasefire violation
Pakistan was attacking civilian villages to cause death and damage and the BSF was giving them an apt reply, the officer said. Houses have been destroyed and the frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan have left the residents anxious for their lives.

The flu season keeps getting deadlier, too. Doctors warn flu tests can give a false-negative result, so people should rely more on intuition than anything. "It's not possible to predict what viruses will be most predominant during the upcoming season".

He added, "People with flu generate infectious aerosols (tiny droplets that stay suspended in the air for a long time) even when they are not coughing, and especially during the first days of illness". Norman Edelman, senior scientific advisor for the American Lung Association.

If residents are feeling sick with flu like symptoms they should seek medical attention. "Symptoms can range from mild to life-threatening". If you have kids, babysit, volunteer with the elderly, or have a weakened immune system - such as a chronic disease, are pregnant, or are elderly - you should definitely get a flu shot and convince all of your friends to do the same. No word on whether that will impact efforts to curb the flu and protect people.

Australian Open: Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic into 4th round
The Frenchman remarkably recovered to make a fight of it before a relieved Djokovic , seeded 14, came through 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3. Roger Federer and Simona Halep continue to cruise in the Australian Open , and will play in third-round matches on Friday.

Still, the CDC recommends that all people over the age of five get the shot to reduce the symptoms of the virus. You can not get the flu from the flu shot, but immunity usually takes about two weeks to develop. Antiviral medications can help ease the effects of the virus, but these drugs are most effective if taken within 48 hours of getting sick.

Don't spread the misery. Everyone must practice good and frequent hand washing. People should avoid touching their eyes, nose or mouth, particularly if their hands aren't clean. If someone in your house has already had the flu, make sure you're changing out bed sheets, hand towels, and even things like kitchen sponges so you're super germ free. "If you're sick", Alles said, "you should stay home - from school, from work".

Researchers with university of California at Berkely (UC Berkeley) and San Jose State University detailed their findings about the alarming easy way of flu spreading by breathing in a paper of their study, which were carried in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science Thursday.
